||The rate of reaction is a function of the concentrations of the reactants. As the forward reaction occurs, the reactant concentration will decrease, hence reducing the rate of forward reaction. If the reaction is reversible, the increase in concentration of product will increase the rate of the reverse reaction. Eventually the rate of the two reactions will be the same and an equilibrium will exist.
